Our ESBC Team has developed programs to provide the community with educational opportunities in bicycle safety, maintenance and repair. With the intention of supporting individuals in gaining a safe, affordable and reliable mode of transportation, our programs are designed for participants to gain knowledge and skills which allow for self-sufficiency and independence.
Unlike the E-Bike Library which is open to everyone, our additional free programs are being offered to residents of the east side with priority given to the 14215 neighborhoods.
Earn a Bike Program
The objective of the Earn-A-Bike program is to
Get bicycles to individuals who may not have access to one
To develop skills that will be beneficial to them in the future
Participation in our Earn-A-Bike program provides the opportunity for members of the east side community to receive training in bicycle safety, maintenance, and repair. Bikes in this program have been donated and refurbished. If you prefer a challenge and would like to learn advanced mechanics you can choose a bike that is still in need of some love and work with one of our mechanics during your hands-on shop time to get it safely ready to roll! Every participant who earns a bike will also receive a new bike helmet.
Requirements for the Earn-A-Bike program:
-
Complete a bicycle safety workshop
-
Complete a basic bike mechanics workshop
-
Complete 2 hours of hands-on experience volunteering in the shop
NOTE: PARTICIPANTS UNDER THE AGE OF 14 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT, AND UNDER 18 REQUIRES A PARENT'S PERMISSION IN WRITING.
